- You have upgraded to higher release just because of you have got the latest release in your hand, later you find out that, your current release version is not that much stable.
- You have upgraded due to new feature and you found that your new feature is used but many other problems have cropped up.
- You have upgraded but now you found that your TCP’s or customizations made for earlier releases are not compatible with new release.
I learnt few lessons from these instances.
- Never upgrade to higher version if it is running smoothly and no major problem is faced with existing release.
- Before upgradation proper backup plan should be in mind and all precautions should be taken into consideration in form of data backup.
- Sr. no, Key and email id should be handy before doing any misadventure.
How to downgrade a Tally release?
Two steps are involved in whole process.

The data should should be downgraded
As earlier told a proper backup of the data should be taken. In case of Tally 9 release 3 beta, license information should be with you and it should be properly surrendered first. After surrender Tally should be uninstalled by the utility. All files in tally folder should be properly removed and then older version exe should be installed in the same folder. Tally license can now be activated again.
Now comes data part. Open Tally and before opening the company press Ctrl+Alt+R at the company selection menu. It would ask for rewriting the company, press yes and rewrite the data. You would see that company is converted into lower release.
Important
Please note that this thing is not possible while downgrading Tally version 9 to Tally 7.2. Although this thing can work if you want to revert to Tally 6.3 from Tally 7.2. Our main focus of discussion is Tally 9 and it’s releases. Yo should check various stats like the total no of ledgers, vouchers etc before and after downgradation.
I dunno but why shouldn’t the new version not be as good or even compatible with the old version?
I don’t know why Tally 9 release 3 should be in beta for such a long time. I haven’t used it, but any software being in beta for such a long time indicates significant bugs. If Microsoft can release an entire operating system after 6 months of beta testing, why not Tally?
There are certain issues which hold us to revert to older versions.
The newer version is always better but certain factor force us to revert to older version.
Let’s take example of Microsoft Windows. I have seen so many customers who have not upgraded to windows XP Just because Tally 4.5 doesn’t work on windows XP.
Some people are using certain specialized software for image editing or video editing on older versions of windows just because new version of windows is not compatible with those software.
As far as Tally 9 beta is concern it is taking long time in beta phase just because so many things are being added in this release. According to Tally road map this release has to be regularized on 31st dec.

In-case tallyhelper is somebody at tally, i request you to tell your customer support team not to recommend users to upgrade to tally 9 rel 3 beta to ‘try’ and solve problems, esp. if downgrade is not possible. Instead keep bug-fixing the rel 2 of the soft. until rel 3 is out of beta, kind of like how firefox has ver2 still supported to give users time to migrate to ver3.

Tally don't do like this. Please first upgrade your team, then Tally. After so many request & reminder we could get the problem solved in Rel.2.13 now we have upgraded to Rel.3 (Beta), but again we face same problem like Rel.2.13 in Statutory report. How could & when we will be able to get the correct reporting.

very nice and just in time. one of my clients is having problems for last 15 days with tally 9 2.14. when contacted tally support asked him to upgrade to 2.14 (since he was not sure about version installed).
When I got involved and clarified to tally support that r2.14 is infact installed, they adviced that r2.14 infact is facing issues and in a few days r3 will be released and to use that.
the problem: tally 9 r2.14 quits after a few voucher entries saying ‘out of namespace’. problem is being faced for past 15 – 20 days. (ofcourse tally is legitimate – o/w tally support will not respond, isn’t it?)
