From June 14, 2023 Tally has introduced its latest version of Tally Prime 3.0 . Tally has presented it as ‘Simplicity ka naya avtar’. or the new version of simplicity. As a Tally user It is a question always in front of us that weather or not I should update my Tally to the latest version. But should we update our license to latest version or not the answer to this question changes from person to person. Let me explore the question on behalf of several person’s point of view. I would put my opinion in the last.
Should I update my Tally to Tally Prime 3.0?
Answer to this question depends on many factors. One of the fact is why have I purchased Tally? In my business it is helping me in solving many problems. These problems were being solved by my existing software version then if am a person of conservative approach then I would let it be working like that only.
So the new version may have n number of features I would not update it as I don’t want to disturb my existing setup.
If I am a person who is ready to take risks and want to explore newer challenges then I would be updating my Tally to Tally Prime 3.0
In my personal experience I have seen that money also plays some role here. People usually update their software more quickly if no money is involved.
Why should I update my Tally to Tally Prime 3.0?
Changing business scenario puts newer challenges to the business owner. If your software is providing solutions to those challenges then you should immediately update your software. It doesn’t matter if money is also involved because it is your asset.
New software always comes with new features and functionalities. This new release 3.0 is also not an exception. But before jumping to upgrade following factors should be considered.
Tally Prime 3.0 features
Major Tally Prime 3.0 features are
- Multi GSTN: You can now prepare GST reports of multiple GSTIN in a single company. It is going to save you a lot of time.
- Advance filters: Tally Prime 3.0 has some nice filter options.
- Payment QR code or Link Option: Tally Prime 3.0 has an option by which you can print a QR at the bottom of invoice or have an link for payment in the pdf format from where your customers can pay you for your services.
Things to take care before updating to Tally Prime 3.0
- Are you running any TCP file (Customization)? If yes then first you have to check the compatibility of those files with Tally Prime 3.0. Before upgradation you should check with the provider who has given you the customization. For this you can contact your vendor also. If he ok with it then you should upgrade.
- Are you in the middle of some important work? Like you may be finalizing the GST reports of current months or you must be finalizing the balance sheet which is important. So you should finish that work and then start with upgradation. Shifting to new version can disturb you settings. If you are filling your returns then first finish that work and then think of upgradation. The new version would have changes in the way to do that same work which you have to learn first. This can cause you unnecessary delay in last moments of return filing.
Few things to keep in mind before upgrading to new version.
- Once you upgrade then there is no going back as data would be migrated to new version and it cannot roll back. So you better take a backup of your Data before migrating.
- Is your TSS active? If your Tally subscriptions service (TSS) is expired then you cannot upgrade. It would turn the license in educational version and you have to renew it before it can be used. So of your TSS is expired then first get it renewed and then upgrade to Tally Prime 3.0
- Make sure that you have license credential with you as you may have to reactivate the license again. So if you don’t have the license credentials with you then hold on. First arrange then and then upgrade.
- When ever new version comes it comes with some changes and new features. Although these changes are tried and tested by alpha and beta versions. But still some bugs may still remain. These would be updated in next release when people would report it. So you can wait for the bug fixes and then upgrade, if you don’t have any urgency of the new features. Let people test these features, let your self be familiarize and get trained with the new features and then update.
You should immediately Update if
- You need those new features immediately which are there in new Tally Prime 3.0 e.g. you need Multi GSTIN Solution.
- Your TSS is going to expire soon, so you just upgrade to latest release as after expiry you need to renew it before upgrade. If your TSS is going to expire in June 30 or July 31 then update it before expiry.
What care you should take before updating to Tally Prime 3.0?
Simply take a data backup first before upgrading to Tally Prime 3.0. It would be preferable to ask your Tally partner to do the upgrade for you. If you don’t have any partner then you can call us to upgrade or simply contact us
My take
Are you still on Tally ERP 9 ? You should update your Tally ERP 9 to Tally Prime 3.0 because Tally Prime version has more connectivity then Tally ERP 9. If we talk about Tally Prime 3.0 features then they are definitely an added advantage but one advantage which Tally Prime has over Tally ERP 9 is it’s speed. Tally Prime is now at 3rd major release, it means now it is more stable and time tested now. You have upgraded to 64 bit computer and 64 bit operating systems now is the time for all 64 bit software which Tally Prime 3.0 is.
So update yourself to 64 bit version as soon as possible
If you are using Tally ERP 9 then you would find the interface of Tally Prime 3.0 very impressive. The experience of Tally Prime 3.0 is refreshing also good. Any Tally user has to upgrade sooner or later.
